Thanks for ruining my day, technology

I would say that a refrigerator is a pretty vital piece of equipment in ones life. I have found this out only recently (wednesday). Long story short, our fridge is just chilly now, nothing more, nothing less. Have you ever gone to make a turkey sandwich only to discover that your fresh package of deli meat is lukewarm? Cause I have!

Have you ever realized that the reason your stomach feels strange is because the eggs you scrambled the night before have been sitting in a "chilly" fridge for 24 hours? Don't worry, nothing more dramatic happened (i.e. the barfs), but thank goodness!

But here is the real kicker. The part of this broken appliance story that makes my blood boil. No one will come to fix it!!!! The landlord says "just trust the process"....um, that is what we tell girls when they are going through rush, I just want to eat some yogurt without it smelling weird. The "process" is someone coming out here to fix the dang thing.

Also, it like really stresses me out when I know someone is supposed to show up "between 8 and 4." Should I shower? What if they knock on the door and I'm brushing my teeth? Should I go to HEB really quick? They might have showed up while I'm gone and then driven away because no one was there.

I feel like a brat right now even complaining about this, but it doesn't seem like it should be this hard to get someone out here when we first called about it a few days ago. Apparently, if no one shows up by 4 (in about 20 minutes). I am supposed to call the landlord and see if we can just replace the whole fridge.

Sigh. I'll go dream about ice cream and other perishable items that my diet requires while I wait for "the process" to continue.

Sincerely,
Dairy lover

So Long 2012!

Seeing as I am getting really bad about updating this blog, I thought I'd go ahead and post my bye-bye 2012 post while I have a second.

Overall, 2012 was a great year. I can confidently say I overcame a lot, learned a lot and tried my best to appreciate the "small" things. I am hoping that 2013 brings exciting changes to my life as I graduate and (hopefully) get a job. This blog is sort of on the back burner right now but I am hoping, as my plans for post-grad life come together, I will be able to bring more exciting things to this blog.

For now, I will leave with a couple of my new favorite things.

- Easy-Squeezy Chai Tea Latte-

Travis's mom introduced me to this. Take one chai tea bag and steep in hot water. Remove tea bag and dollop with whipped cream. Seriously. The whipped cream sinks into the tea and makes it magically yummy.

- Almond Butter -

I was hesitant to try Almond Butter because I love PB with all my heart. But, wow, Justin's Almond Butter is the shiz. On toasted bread, on an apple, licked off a spoon, just eat it.

- Gone Girl -

This book is amazing. I have been enthralled with it from the beginning. Since the plot is so twisty-turny, I don't want to give anything away but I will just say it is basically about the demise of a marriage. I heard it is going to be made into a movie, so read it now! I am zipping through it and only have about 100 pages left, it is hard to put down.

- Django Unchained-

Holy...I just can't even begin. This film rocks. It was a tad too long for my taste and could've wrapped things up a little quicker but if you are a Tarantino fan I highly recommend it. I know the subject matter can be considered offensive but all I can say is....slavery was offensive. Of course there are aspects that are hard to watch, but wow, amazing performances, fabulous music. I could go on.

My other favorite things right now: spending time with my family during winter break, catching up with friends who I don't get to see often enough, looking at Christmas lights with Travis, seeing all the fantastic movies that are out right now.

Happy New Year!

Ultimate Laziness

this is not just any nightstand my friends. this is my laziness at its finest. confession: i barely, if ever, wash my face at night. some may think thats gross but, i'll tell you what it really boils down too. it just so much effort when i'm sleepy. my solution is in my nightstand, and i'm ashamed yet impressed with myself for it. see that green thing in my drawer? those are wipey thingys that clean mah whiter than white complexion before i hit the hay. all i have to do is roll over to my nightstand, grab one and BAM, good to go.

in other news, i made this for dinner last night. parmesan crusted chicken, roasted asparagus and rice pilaf. yum scrum.

and finally, for a jew, i get really into christmas. i love all of it. right now i am writing a term paper with these little twinklies on and it is just so fab.

treat people nicely!

first off, travis, i am very sorry if you hate this picture but it is adorably funny and will hopefully offset any cheesy-ness in this post.

i have learned from travis that the way a guy treats waiters/waitresses or any other retail-type employee is very important. travis has been a waiter before and whenever he takes me out to eat he always...always makes sure to give our server a good tip unless they are disrespectful or something.

at cafe capri, this yummy italian place in downtown bryan, we had this waiter a few months ago who was really funny, knowledgable and attentive. as we were leaving travis made sure to go up and shake his hand and thank him for being so great. cute, right?

we went to cafe capri again this past Saturday and due to the home game traffic, we waited for about an hour to get a table and whaddyaknow, we got the same waiter again! this time he was much more stressed but still very nice, trav and I split a dish due to the massively delicious portion sizes there but travis felt bad that the waiter wouldn't be getting as good of a tip. so when our check came he went ahead and tipped him for the amount it would've been for two dishes.

as we were leaving, the waiter approached travis and said, "can I ask, are you a server?" travis said yes and the waiter said, "thank you so much buddy, you really understand, I appreciate it." that just gave me the warm fuzzies because travis treats everyone like that but doesn't often get to see the benefit.

so any single gals reading this, make sure you pay attention to how a dude treats strangers, I think it is very telling of how a guy will treat you.

and no, travis doesn't tip me but you know what i mean.

Halloween 2012

Long time no blog!

I really owe this post to Lauren for hinting to get my butt in gear and blog again. I also owe it to an extremely boring Saturday night where I am working on (avoiding) school work while most of my friendles are out of town or busy.

Halloween was a blast this year, we actually had our Halloween Date Party on Halloween so it felt extra special. Here is a quick summary of my night.

- Me and Travis went to Hobby Lobby to buy supplies for our costume, we were very excited to be so thrifty about our costume...but then couldn't resist the giant bags of candy near the checkout line, oh well.

- We went to dinner with a bunch of my pretty pretty pi phi friends and Abby (dressed as Megan from "Bridesmaids") made me laugh so hard I thought I was gonna puke. It was awesome.

- After dinner I had my first round of painful hiccups. Probably due to the marg and the laughter.

-Got fire ant bites while standing in the lawn waiting for the date party buses. My feet look like they have pimples all over them.

- Bus ride to the party was terrifying. Yellow school busses going 80 mph on country roads, not my thang. Imagine that scene in Willy Wonka where they are on that terrifying boat, only minus the colors...and the wonderment.

- Danced like a maniac/idiot with my friends. Honestly, this was probably the most fun date party ever. No one gave a crap about how crazy they looked. My kind of date party!

- Travis did some dance moves I've never seen before, like I don't think Travis has ever made me laugh that hard ever....I laughed really really hard, 2nd round of painful hiccups, while dancing.

- Got 3rd round of painful hiccups when Travis brought me home. Poor guy, I was being quite annoying with them, saying 'ow' every time I hiccuped. By this point he was over consoling me (can you blame him?)

- Slept like a baby

All in all, yes, quite a successful last Halloween as a college student. People either understood our costume (formal apologies) or...they didn't, but we really didn't care.

Exciting week this week, the election, going home early for Blake and Holly's wedding and hopefully lots of time with my mama, I miss her!

Pizza Pasta

I made this recipe on Sunday night and it was awesome. I got the recipe out of a magazine that also gives the nutritional info, it really isn't bad for you. I think the most important step, health-wise, is to use whole wheat or multi-grain pasta. Also, this is seriously the easiest dish to make, but once finished it looked like it took a lot more work.

Pizza Pasta

Serves 6

- 4 cups uncooked multigrain bow tie pasta-
-2 cans (14.5 oz. each) fire roasted diced tomatoes, undrained-
- 3/4 cup water-
- 12 slices turkey pepperoni, quartered-
-1 Tbsp. prepared pesto-
- 1/4 tsp. pepper-
- 3/4 cup shredded italian cheese blend-

Step 1: In a bowl, combine the uncooked pasta, tomatoes, water, pepperoni, pesto and pepper.
Step 2: Transfer mixture into a baking dish coated with cooking spray
Step 3: Cover and bake at 350 for 45 minutes.
Step 4: Stir pasta and bake for 15 more minutes or until pasta is tender.
Step 5: Top with cheese, then bake, uncovered for 4-6 minutes or until cheese is melted.

That's it! Sorry, I forgot to take a picture of how it turns out but I'm sure you can imaging...I mean, it's pasta..with tomatoes, cheese and pepperoni...

Moving on, here is the nutritional info as well.

1 and 1/4 cup serving equals:

318 Calories
7g fat
15 mg cholesterol
584 mg sodium
47 g carbohydrate
5 g fiber
16 g protein

I'm Done!

Well...that went by fast. Somehow, I finished my internship last Friday! It was a great experience and I learned so much about public relations. I just can't believe how fast the summer has gone. I feel so boring because my summer went something like this:

-sleep-
-work out-
-eat-
-go to work-
-repeat-

But oh well, I guess this is a preview of life post-college? I do like a good routine I guess ;)

Now, I have a week of "summer" also known as, oh s*** I didn't do anything to get ready for moving back to College Station!!!!!
