Feelin' Funky.

I was told recently that I'm "not good at sitting".
I couldn't agree more, I like to wake up and GO! This doesn't mean I'm some workaholic by any means but I just don't like to sit and do nothing, I'll feel guilty.
But, after my stressful week last week, I'm only just now feeling back to normal because I've learned to sit (just a little bit) this week.

Looking forward to a fun weekend and crossing my fingers that I got a decent grade on my Math test! Also looking forward to doing a little of what Zoe is doing...

Film Goodness.

I love myself a good documentary. This past weekend, I watched two that I would highly recommend to my little itty bitty group of readers. (Hi Lauren, Mom, Travis and Sarah!)

1) The September Issue- a documentary about the American Vogue Editor in chief, Anna Wintour. This was really entertaining and fast-paced, it really is like the Devil Wears Prada.

2) Restrepo- A really gritty, honest portrayal of a platoon in one of the most dangerous locations in Afghanistan. This documentary is very moving and the filmmakers were so brave to risk their lives just so people could see how much soldiers risk their lives for our country.

Also, if you are in a movie slump (I know I was) then this is a great one to watch. It's touching and very relatable minus the mental hospital part (for most people). At times it actually hits very close to home especially if you've been a teenager in the 21st century...durr. The soundtrack is also awesome.

Trash Talking

An anecdote:

Tonight, I went to my mmmf's (math-major man friend) intramural soccer game.
They are in the playoffs and I do lurve watching soccer so I went and sat in the stands like usual.
However, something was different about this game. The opposing team, "Team Awesome" started trash-talking the team I was watching and continued through the whole game. If you can't already tell from their team name, these guys were more like "Team Arse-hole"

I ignored it because it began mostly harmless and I assumed that since they saw me talking to players on the other team that they would not want me to hear anything bad.

Wrong.

As the end of the first half neared, they started throwing out insults about my darling, amazing and respectful "mmmf". He is one of the best players out there so naturally, he was an easy target. The comments ranged from making fun of his cleats, his legs and his overall demeanor, all of which are inoffensive. I mean, the kid wears bright orange cleats, has strong legs for soccer and knows what he is doing which, apparently, is grounds to make fun of him.

I don't take stuff like that well, hearing mean comments about someone I care for feels just as bad as if they were talking about me instead. They continued to make fun of other members of the team, calling the girls "manly" etc. I kept quiet, knowing that any sort of reaction would just make them feel accomplished but, they were well aware that I was in ear-shot.  Their insults continued and they even made fun of him to one of the refs, who also laughed. Needless to say, me along with the other people watching mmmf's team were growing annoyed.

The amazing thing was, no one tried to do anything back. No one on the team I was rooting for gave in to Team Arse-holes bullying and I bit my tongue because I knew that it all stemmed from some insecurity. The teams ended the game with a tie and went straight into penalty kicks, mmmf's favorite. He was aware of the taunting going on which only fueled his teams fire. During every penalty kick, the trash talking continued, but my team didn't say a word and gracefully won the game.

I love when stories like this happen because the team I was there for could have easily been sucked into the mouthing off but they didn't, won the game and sent the other team home. Even after the game, math-man-friend said "good game" to one of the guys who was being rude but the guy wouldn't look at him and just walked away.

It amazes me that people can be so low, obviously, I'm a sensitive theatre geek and not an athlete who is used to people talking like that but from the outside, everyone knows how silly they are being. To be so confident and then lose must feel worse then losing after playing a fair game.

I don't really have a moral to this story other than, there is a funny mix of people in the world and I saw a perfect example of that tonight. If you read this whole thing then you are a dear person.

And to team "Awesome"; its intramural soccer, not the World Cup.

I've declared this day a "personal" day

With all the stress finally over from last week, I am exhausted.
Therefore, I've done what I would like to do today because, I think we all deserve those every once in awhile.

So here's what I've done:

- Woke up early for The Big Event!!!! If you have not heard of it, then visit the website here. My group helped an elderly woman rake all the leaves in her front/back yard. Sounds easy but golly there were a lot of leaves, took us 1.5 hours, not long but again, just leaves! Anyways, it was fun to help out someone and I got to do so with my pi phi sistas!

-After I got home, I was pooped so I ate a scrumptious lunch including my new favorite, sliced bell peppers with ranch dressing

- Then, I showered, took a nap, and when I woke up, decided that I didn't want to get out of bed, so I didn't

- After awhile ate ALOT of hummus/crackers...yum

- haven't left my bed in a good few hours but I'm off to dinner soon!

I love days like this, and I'm not even beating myself up about resting all day!

OH- and I just got an e-mail saying that my friend Sarah's birthday present I got her has been delivered! I'm anxiously awaiting a text or call saying what she thinks about it! For any of the two people that read this, you must go to their website thevintagepearl.com

Ok, off to do more of the same!!

Sin City. *Now with video!*

I actually liked Vegas more than I thought I would!
I'm not a fan of over indulgent, cheesy places (Vegas is both of these things times ten) but
I thought it was a great escape for a few days.

I don't want this to be too picture heavy but I'll just post some of my
favorite pictures that I took on the trip! I also have an HD Film clip of the Bellagio fountains below!

The fabulous Bellagio...

We saw two Cirque du Soleil shows, "O" and The Beatles LOVE Show. I think I could have cried at both shows, they were that good.

Do Not Abandon Me!

To my few readers, please do not abandon my blog!
I know I haven't posted in awhile but fear not, after this week of stress and repeatedly throwing my math book against a wall as I prepare for my huge Calculus test...I will be back.

Meanwhile, I'll be wishing that:

 I was eating this...

Flexitarian.

( This has nothing to do with my post but this is a cool photo by Tim Walker, I love his stuff)

For those of you who do not know, I love to cook.
If I had a kitchen, that is where you'd find me. I think there is something so
deeply personal about cooking someone a meal/baking them a treat. It really is a great sense of satisfaction to know someone enjoys your cooking.

Recently, I've found a lot of Natural food/Vegetarian/vegan food blogs and...no joke, the food looks delicious, flavorful and healthy all at the same time. I don't eat meat much (just don't crave it) as it is and I don't think I could permanently give up cheeseburgers and chicken but
I also want to try some of these recipes! I've been reading up on how our bodies weren't made
to digest all of this processed crap and it's really sparked something in me!

So I'll go ahead and share with you some of the blogs:

1) Peas and Thank You- this blog is written by a mother who is raising her kids to be vegetarians, so all of the recipes are really simple and look delicious. I for one want to try this reci"pea". (you can scroll past the mom stuff)

2) Kath Eats Real Food- written by a young gal, she's a certified nutritionist and her recipes are less vegan and more on the "just eat wholesome" side, which I'd love to try.

3) Oh She Glows- Some of her recipes are a little too healthy for me but she has some really creative ideas and a great philosophy on food/healthy eating.

4) The Pioneer Woman- ok, she doesn't have a natural foods blog by ANY means but her home-cooking recipes are delicious. Not only that but she has a pretty cool life! This is great if you're looking for comfort food.

Call me a weirdo, I love food! I also love nutrition (thought about changing my major to it!) I probably won't become a vegetarian, I found out I fall into the flexitarian category? Anyways, I can't cook any of this stuff since I don't have a kitchen. So for now, I'll eat what I can :)

Oh and my spring break has started, I'll post pictures of my adventures.

One of the Best Days.

This weekend I ventured to Austin for the day.
I absolutely love that city and have even thought about maybe trying to move there after college.
I love the people, the atmosphere and the landscape so much. We didn't even do much
in Austin but just being able to be there was a blast.

This is a picture of the food at Lambert's BBQ in Austin. It's kind of "fancy barbecue" the sides we got are baked mac n' cheese and waffle fries, YUMM!!

I love my mornings and other reasons I'm a 40 year old stuck in a 19 year olds body.

It's mornings like these that I realize what an old fart I truly am.

I'm a night person and a morning person, an awful combination.
I love staying up late but I love having a full day. During
the week, I wake up at 9 even though I don't have class until 12:40
every day. This isn't what makes me feel old though,
what makes me feel old is what I do in the mornings.

- First of all, I usually wake up and check my e-mails
- Then I work out...while watching "The View"
-Today, I also watched "Parenthood" which officially makes me a middle aged woman.
- Then I eat something for breakfast, usually something uber healthy and good for digestion cause I'm weird (old) like that.
- Then I shower and get dressed for the day
- Then I check my blogs, yes, my blogs that I read daily...who am I?

I realize this may not be the weirdest thing in the world but it is a funny routine for a college gal. Hey, at least I'm not waking up trying to remember where/who/what happened the night before!

But really, I savor my mornings, I may be an old lady but, I really enjoy that about myself. Make fun of me if you want (please don't).

Sidenote: I got all my Oscar Predictions right! However, the Oscars were a snooze.
