Music, Movies, TV

My watching/listening habits change all the time, especially depending on the season. On top of that, I would say I have a very...eclectic taste. Here's my recent picks:

-Movies-

Beasts of the Southern Wild

Holy cow, this movie is moving, funny, inspiring and heartbreaking all at the same time. I would say it is a less artsy "Tree of Life." I hate crying in movies, it's a story for another time, but I'll just say that in this movie I was crying until the credits rolled at the end. Partly it was the story, but it was more because the lead character, Hushpuppy, was so damn talented and the score was so gorgeous and I knew that this was an up and coming director so it just made me so happy to think how proud he must be of this. Ok- I am stopping my pretentious rant, but go see this!!

Then, on the other end of the spectrum, we have....

Katy Perry: Part of Me

Yeah. I saw it, what are you gonna do about it? It was fluffy and sparkly, just the kind of movie you want to see in the summer. I've always thought Katy Perry was a cool chick, this movie reaffirmed it. The movie accomplishes its goal; making you smile and then want to go buy all of Katy Perry's music.

-Music-

This is where it gets crazy ya'll. Here's what my spotify has looked like at work.

Beach House
Local Natives
Best Coast
Simon & Garfunkel
Katy Perry
Kid Cudi
The Mama's & The Papas
Daniel Tosh comedy albums
Elton John
Billy Joel
No Doubt

I don't know why but I've really wanted to go back and listen to all the music my parents played for me when I was little. Thus, Elton John, Simon & Garfunkel and Billy Joel. Duh I had to listen to my No Doubt albums since they just released their new single. Embarrassing story time: I was so obsessed with No Doubt that I bought a necklace from their website that boasted the words "Rock Steady" and wore it a lot.

-TV-

YOU GUYS. I am mooching off of Travis's Netflix account, finally! So here is my TV list. Again, random.

The City
Friday Night Lights
Kell on Earth

Yeah.

A Weekend for Friends and No Cable

This past weekend was great. Unfortunately, at home, my Dad was sick all weekend and our cable/internet was out. I hate that I rely on those things so much but at the same time, it made for a crabby Dad and a very boring house. So I had lots of time to catch up with friends!!! I thought I would just share some friend love today.

On Friday night, I got to hang out with my former roomie and longtime friend Sarah.

All we did was sit in her kitchen and talk, but it was just what I needed. It is always nice to have a friend you can talk to...I mean, really talk, about the big stuff. I don't mean to imply that Sarah and I can't also be ridiculously silly with each other (cause trust me, we can) but, I can also talk to her about all the chatter that's in my brain sometimes. Hopefully I am that way for her too. It was great to spend Friday night catching up.

Saturday day and Saturday night, I spent with these two rascals.

Lauren, the deary on the left, had never been to Highland Park Pharmacy (an old-fashioned lunch counter) so we went there first and then I took them to my new favorite boutique, Milk & Honey. It doesn't matter what I do with these two, I always end up laughing so hard I cry a little and/or we get into some conversation about awkward things you can only talk to your closest friends about. That night, Lauren and I sat in Starbucks and talked about all the big change that will happen once we graduate from college. It is scary stuff to talk about but always easier to go through when you know someone else feels the same way. Then we picked up Ashley, ahem...I mean, made Ashley drive us around to...a house who's location shall remain secret....thanks for driving Ash :)

Sunday afternoon I had a long overdue "phone date" with Marie.

Marie was my first friend at A&M. She immediately befriended me in a way I will be forever thankful for. On the surface, we may not seem very similar, but the more I talk to her, I realize that we have a lot in common. Marie makes me want to be a better friend. She would rather talk on the phone than text, and she loves handwritten letters. These are two things I also love but have recently stopped doing, for no reason other than being "too busy." But getting to know Marie has reminded me that you can never be too busy to go the extra mile if it means being a good friend. Also, she is the only friend I can talk about needlepoint with, so I'll keep her around.

Welp, that was my weekend! Now, I am gearing up for some supa fun celebrating for the 4th of July. Hopefully I will remember to lug my camera around everywhere, I gotta hop back on the photography train.
