That Time I Watched "The Hunger Games"

Last night, I ventured out into the random College Station rainstorm last night to see "The Hunger Games." I have so many friends who loved the books so I was really surprised when what I was watching was children killing each other.

Um, what?

Sorry, I am not trying to hate on all the people that love the series and no, I haven't read the books but, why is it entertaining to read about this? I think things like this are terrible for our society to see or think about. I realize it is supposed to shock you but all I could see were undertones of the horrors of reality tv if we let it go too far, human trafficking (minus the sex part, but the whole forcing kids to fight to the death against their will part) and just an overall disrespect for youth.

I will say, that some people I know who read the book hated the movie because it was so violent, so I'm strictly talking about the movie here.

Oh well, that is my rant. Maybe I am a softie, maybe it is because I haven't read the books but it just didn't totally sit well with me. However, the music, the costumes and the filmmaking was impressive and I was genuinely engaged the whole time...just a little shocked.

Ok, BAM I'm done.
